Gutenbergs's Invention

Gutenberg's invention of the printing press is widely thought of as the origin ofmass communication-- it marked Western culture's first viable method of disseminatingideas and information from a single source to a large and far-ranging audience. The story ofprint is a long and complex one. It may be too much to claim that print was the singlecause of the massive social, political and psychological changes it is associated with. However, print did wield enormous influence on every aspect of European culture. Somehistorians suggest that print was instrumental in bringing about all the major shifts inscience, religion, politics and the modes of thought that are commonly associated withmodern Western culture.

  1. The impact of the printing press was practically immediate. It was probably the single-most effective promoter of literacy in the history of the world. It really did change the world. It made knowledge available to the masses.

It was the tool that Martin Luther used to communicate his thoughts and philosophies that led to religious and social upheaval in Europe brought on by the spread of Protestantism. When I think about it, the printed word on paper has lost a lot of its punch – probably the first information overload.

  2. Gutenberg's invention of the printing press was a life changing invention. Information could be produced in mass amounts with the printing press. Not only could books and newspapers be made easier, but music as well.

Since there were more copies being made due to the printing press, these books, newspapers, and music were widely distributed to other areas instead of just locally. A branch off the printing press, people have access to printers within their own homes. As well as most inventions, the printing press was a great success and very convienient.
