Web-Conferencing

Conferencing is really good tools for most of today's international business, but Web conferencing is even better. Web conferencing is used to conduct live meetings or presentations via the Internet. In a web conference, each participant sits at their own computer and is connected to other participants via the internet. This can be either a downloaded application on each of the attendees' computers or a web-based application where the attendees may enter a website address to enter the conference.

  1. We currently use web conferencing at my work for interviews. We have outside sales representatives locates across the globe so the most cost effective way to interview them is to do a web conference as opposed to the cost of a flight. It is pretty neat. Maybe one day we'll all have web video phones. Our phones, computers, and t.v. will be wrapped up into one and you'll be able to see/speak to whomever. Hmmm.

  2. After just finishing The Road Ahead by Bill Gates, I find web conferencing to be a more interesting idea now. The fact that web conferencing allows people to essentially have a face-to-face meeting as long as all participants have web cameras, microphones and internet access is simply incredible. International businesses now can now stay in contact with all of their branches, and the communication does not have to be all one way (email), or impersonal (instant messaging). Bill Gates was right, the internet is the most important development to technology communications in recent times.

  4. Conferencing really is an amazing tool. The ability to telecommunicate between places is a major improvement from having to be flown everywhere to go to the next business meeting. People are able to even work from home because their boss knows they are only a click away. One of the faster developing ways is through Skype. Skype is a relatively new technology but allows you to video conference to one another as if you were facing each other. Another way that businesses in particular are grasping this concept is with training in their workplace. For example, I work at a bank and we have a lot of new training that comes through. The problem is, our home-base is in Lancaster, Pa. Before this development we had to drive to Lancaster to complete our training. But more recently we’ve used video conferencing to communicate with the trainer in Lancaster and work like that. Society is constantly expanding on the ways you can use video conferencing. Even in hospitals, doctors are being able to see other doctors while performing surgeries and watch as they do it together. This whole process is utterly fascinating.

  5. This is such an amazing tool in a large company. My cousin works for a major corporation and he says this tool saves him at least three business trips a year just because so much can be accomplished right from your personal computer. It amazes me to think how much time and money is saved now by major corporations that have this tool accessible to them.

  6. Thanks to the advanced technology international communication became easier and more convenient. Many companies mow day use web conference as a method to communicate with their business partners overseas. Similar device is becoming very common – SecondLife. Many businesses also turned to SecondLife as an option to meet using the internet without leaving the office. I wonder what other technologies will show up for the same use in the coming future.
